how to play

Playing the Tissot-McDonalds World Cup Predictor is simple. The predictor is divided into two parts.

The first part is the Question Game. There are 9 questions that you have to answer. QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED BEFORE START OF THE FIRST MATCH. You will be awarded points for correct answers or near correct answers as follows:

1

Total number of goals scored - A correct answer is worth 75 points but if you are within a certain range of the correct total, you can still earn points as follows:
100% correct answer - 100 points
10% plus or minus - 75 points
25% plus or minus - 40 points

2

Predict semi-finalist, finalist and winner
50 points for each correct semi-finalist predicted
100 points for each correct finalist predicted
200 points for predicting the correct winner

3 How many yellow cards in the tournament?
100% correct answer - 100 points
10% plus or minus - 75 points
25% plus or minus - 40 points
4 Fastest goal scorer
100 points for a correct prediction
5 Fastest goal time
100% accurate prediction - 150 points
10% plus or minus - 80 points
25% plus or minus - 50 points
6 Number of drawn matches in group stages
100% correct answer - 100 points
10% plus or minus - 75 points
25% plus or minus - 40 points
7 First player to score a goal
50 points for a correct prediction
8 Which player will score the most goals
100 points for a correct prediction
50 points if the actual player is from the same team as you have predicted but is not the correct one
(eg. if you predict that Messi will score the most goals, but it is actually Mascherano you will still get 50 points)
9 Player of the tournament
200 points for a correct prediction
100 points if the actual player is from the same team as you have predicted but is not the correct one

The winner of this game will be the participant with the highest number of points at the end of the tournament.

The second part is the match predictor
You can make your predictions just before each match starts and points will be awarded according to the same rules as the Tissot EPL Predictor which are reproduced below. The winner will be the participant with the highest number of points at the end of the tournament.

Points system
On every game a maximum of 100 points can be earned with other possibilities of 60,40,20 and 10 points. Therefore, each goal predicted correctly has a significance in the overall standings for a participant.

For explanation we will use the first game of the season between Chelsea and Hull City which we will assume is won 4-2 by Chelsea.

Totally correct prediction - 100 points
If a participant correctly predicts the whole game i.e a 4-2 win for Chelsea.

If a participant fails to predict the whole game then he can earn points for parts of the game as follows:

Correct result with correct number of total goals - 70 points
If a participant predicts a 5-1 win for Chelsea he will get 70 points because the predicted result was correct (Chelsea victory) and the total number of goals for the match was also correct i.e. 6 goals. However, the participant did not get the actual goals for each team right.

Correct result (with correct number of goals for one team) – 60 points
If someone predicts a  3-2 win for Chelsea he will get 60 points for predicting a correct result (Chelsea victory) and correct goals for one team (2 goals for Hull City). Obviously, if he had predicted correct goals for Chelsea too, then he would get the full 100 points. Same would apply in case the participant predicted a 4-1 win.

Correct result (but incorrect goal prediction) - 40 points
If a participant has entered a score of 1-0 in his prediction in favour of Chelsea the result was obviously correct i.e. a win for Chelsea, but the score was incorrect. Therefore, he will get only 40 points.

Incorrect result (but correct number of total goals) – 20 points
Suppose a participant predicted a 3 all draw. That makes a total of six goals which is the same as the actual number of goals scored in the match, but the result was incorrect. In this case, he will get 20 points.

Incorrect result (with correct number of goals for one team) – 10 points
If a participant predicts a 2-1 win for Hull City he will get 10 points because Hull City did score two goals, even though the predicted result was not the same as the actual result.
